Zavala Solutions
A container construction company carrying one of Monterrey's better known family names, trading under a name that put a ceiling on it. We rebuilt the identity around what the business could become rather than what it currently sells.

The problem
The company converts shipping containers into modular structures for housing, commercial and industrial use. It traded as Box Containers, which described the material accurately and the ambition not at all. A name built on the container puts a ceiling on a business that wants to sell buildings.
There was a second asset going unused. The owner belongs to the Zavala family, a name with real commercial weight in Monterrey across several companies in Grupo Zavala. The brand was drawing on none of it.
What discovery surfaced
Two things worth the money.
The first was that the competitive advantage is not speed and it is not price. The client was direct about it: the advantage is service. That single answer redirected the project, because a brand built on speed looks nothing like a brand built on being reliable to deal with.
The second was a tension the client felt but had not named. They wanted to evoke the family group without becoming a sub-brand of it. In the questionnaire they selected both similar to the group but with its own personality and its own identity that subtly evokes the group. Holding both is possible, but only if you decide deliberately which parts inherit and which parts depart.
Six keywords
Confidence. Vanguard. Flexibility. Solidity. Service. Precision.
The decisions
We paired the keywords rather than treating them as a list, because pairs resolve into design decisions and lists do not.
Vanguard and solidity set the typography. Geometric, bold, strong vertical axis. Nothing decorative and nothing that will look dated in four years.
Flexibility and precision set the geometry. The Z is drawn with notched, cut corners so it reads as something fabricated rather than something written. Modular grids that reconfigure without losing coherence, which is what the company does to steel.
Confidence and service set the palette and the tone of voice, and they exist to warm up what the first two pairs would otherwise leave cold.
Where we pushed and lost
We argued against Solutions as the descriptor and put forward more specific options. The client chose Solutions. It is a generic word in a category full of them, so the note left in the brand book is that equity has to be built on the Z icon and the ZAVALA wordmark. Solutions is a descriptor, not the anchor.
Writing that down plainly in the handover matters more than winning the argument.
What was delivered
A full identity system: standalone Z icon, ZAVALA wordmark, lockups, palette, typography and usage rules. The engagement then extended into the website, which is in build.
Images to be added.
Launching now. The engagement extended from identity into website design and build, which is the clearest signal a client can give that the first phase worked.
